04 Essential Gadgets For The Barefoot Entrepreneur’s Home Office
If you finally decide to build a home office it can be like Christmas has came early. Millions of people work from a tiny little corner of their living room. Can you imagine how annoying that would be? Of course you could if it’s already something you’ve experienced. It’s great to work from home because you always get to spend time with your kids, but if your business has any chance of growing you will need to start doing a lot more work. That’s why an office is so great. Just put a big sign on the door asking not to be disturbed.
In the past you might have had a few essential items. There wasn’t any need to have more than a computer and desk because you wouldn’t have had room for it anyway. It’s easier when you have an office. It’s not like you have to worry about squeezing everything into a little corner. There’s room for anything you want. You can start thinking about things that will improve your business. Some of those things will be cool gadgets and here’s a few decent ones to put at the top of your list.
A shredding machine
If you don’t have a shredder you have to rip up all your mail by hand. This is time consuming and it’s not very safe. It could actually be extremely dangerous. I say this because you never know who is looking through your trash can. Once they find a credit card number they will do serious damage. You might think this doesn’t happen, but unfortunately it does. Shred everything before you throw it away and both you and your customers important data is safe. If anything you can sleep at night free of worries.
An all-in-one printer
Some businesses won’t need to print anything out or scan something. Others will have to do it every day. If your type of business requires you to use the printer every time you step into the office you will want something of high quality. The faster it prints, the faster you get your job finished. It will pay for itself over time. Even if you don’t require one you should get a cheap version anyway. You never know when you will need it, and if you’re working hard you don’t want to stop so you can run to the library to print something out.
A second monitor
Once you start using two monitors you will never go back to anything less in your life. It makes work so much easier and you can get through things in half the time. I’m still not sure why most people don’t already do it. Maybe it’s something to do with the cost involved. Programmers will benefit from it more than anyone else. Instead of switching window’s every few minutes to test out the changes you’re making to the code, you can now check instantly. I’m guessing your work hours will cut in half. Is this something that sounds worth it?
Speakers and a microphone
Your computer will already come with these installed and that’s fine if you are playing around on it, but when it comes time to speaking with clients or customers you want to do it properly. This will involve investing in a nice set of speakers so you can hear everything being said, and a microphone so you afford the person on the other end the same pleasure. You’ll know how annoying it is to speak with someone and you can’t hear anything they’re saying. You don’t have to go too crazy when you pick some up, but just remember than your pre-installed ones are not very professional.
